Day Two: Luray Caverns

Good Evening!

Wow, today was just...wow! After having a delicious omelette made by Uncle Bill, Tim and I hit the road and made our way to the Luray Caverns. On our way, we were about to pass the Skyline Caverns, but we made a quick decision to stop. I'm so glad we did too, because not only was it beautiful, but it also kept us off the road while it rained. The cavern was very cramped, but it was a sight to behold. There were these very rare Calcium formations that grew in the Skyline Caverns called Anthodites, which were unique to this particular cave. The tour was fun and educational, which seems to be our theme thus far with all the activities we do. Good thing we both really love to learn!

So, after the tour it was time to move on to our planned attraction, the Luray Caverns. Boy, was this one different! It was incredibly beautiful, and so huge! The rooms were so vast, and the formations were magnificent. Some of our favorites were "Pluto's Ghost", "Saracen's Tent", and of course, "The Fried Eggs". The tour wasn't typical with a tour guide. We were given headsets that elaborated on everything we saw. There are way too many sights to see, so you will just have to view our Photobucket album. Tim and I had a lot of fun exploring the cave.

Next up was a cruise on Skyline Drive, and there was no toll due to FEE FREE DAY! The views were extremely breath-taking! We stopped at almost all of the photo points, but unfortunately we had to rush the last part a bit since it was getting dark. In the future, we want to visit either Skyland or one of the many other camps on top of the mountain. We would like to stay a couple of days and enjoy the scenery.

We were both pretty tired, so we stopped shortly after getting off Skyline Drive in Harrisonburg, Viginia, and here we are. It's getting late so I'm going to get to bed now. Hope you enjoy the pictures as much as we enjoyed taking them!

For some reason Photobucket publishes the last pic first, so start on the last page and work your way back to beginning for proper chronological order:
Skyline Caverns
Luray Caverns
Skyline Drive

Love from Harrisonburg, VA.
